Dear Members,

                                           Assalam-o-Alaikum!

I consider it a great honour and privilege that I have been provided an opportunity to serve as the President of the most exclusive club of Pakistan and after bowing my head to the Almighty Allah I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all of you for the confidence you have reposed in me in electing me to this coveted post and providing me a Managing Committee comprising of individuals of calibre and experience to assist and guide me in taking this club to the pinnacle of success this year. 

Although my ascendancy to presidency is due to the love and affection of all the respected members and especially the past Presidents and the office bearers of the friend group but there are few members on whose shoulders I climbed to power and I would be failing in my duty if I fail to acknowledge them by name. I would therefore, at this juncture, especially  like to thank   Mr. Tufail M. Sheikh,   Mr. Irfan Nadeem,   Mr. Wamiq  A. Zuberi,        Mr. Asadullah Khan,    Mr. Dilawar  H. Agha   and    Mr. S. M. Muneer for the major role they played in helping me to achieve this coveted post.  I would profess my apology to any member whose name I may have inadvertently missed.

At the very first Meeting of the Managing Committee, I informed the Members of the Committee that they should consider our term of office as a one day match in which we have been set a very huge target and they should make all their  efforts to achieve the target in the requisite overs. I have full confidence that the eleven members of my team will play their part in helping me to achieve the required target and win the match. 

The team comprises of Mr. Homi B. Khambata as Vice President and second in command, who has played a major part in the success of many of the previous Managing Committees.  He will not only be my deputy in all matters but also serve as Convener, Tender and Purchases.

Mr. Ali A. Rahim, the  Honorary Treasurer elected, has already played a couple of good innings as a member of previous Managing Committees and brings with him the rich experience he has acquired as office bearer, including the President of Income Tax Bar Association, Karachi.  He will be looking after the Finance Sub-Committee and Building and Technical Sub-Committee and I am sure that with him controlling the strings of the purse, our club will never suffer from financial instability.

Mr. Mohammad Naseem Gandhi in his previous outings has earned the man of the match and the man of the series title a number of times and I am sure the Swimming Pool Sub-Committee will wear a new look under his Convenership.  Mr. Jahangir Moghul is an experienced team man who has always played his part ably. This year I have assigned him to look after Sports-I,   and I am confident that he will enhance the reputation of our club as the major sporting club of our country.

Although Mr. Syed Badar Hussain has earned his cap only last year, yet I have so much faith in his talents that I have entrusted him the helm-ship of the Entertainment/Cultural Sub-Committee and I am very confident that his knock will play a major part in achieving the targets we have set for ourselves this year.

Mr. K. M. Saeed is a wizard who has excelled in all departments and this year we will be utilizing his services in not only the Rules Sub-Committee but also as Convener Employees Relations Sub-Committee.  He will also  be a part of the strategic team in the Building and Technical  and Catering Departments.

The lovers of game realize that Quiz Rama has always been a forte of Mr. Shiraz Thaver and this year I expect that he will break all the previous records in this field.

I am a strong believer that for the club to function successfully and the targets to be achieved, it is necessary that the taste buds of our members are catered to in a very delicious manner. I have therefore assigned the Catering Department to another ‘Man for all Seasons’ Mr. Mian Azmat Hussain, whose proficiency in sport organizations is known to all.   I have great confidence that Mian Sahib will make this year the most mouthwatering year for the members of our club. 

Earning his cap this year is Dr. Naseer Ahmed Baloch and my confidence in his ability and talent can be gauged from the fact that I have assigned him the Convenership of the Library & Literary Sub-Committee and I am sure that he will execute his assignment in a very professional manner.

This year, I am sure that flowers will bloom all over the club as the Convenership of the Garden Sub-Committee has been assigned to one of my closest confidant in the Committee,  Mr. Amin N. Mohammad Noor .

Another veteran in the team from whom I expect a lot is Mr. Ahmed Saeed who has been assigned to look after Sports- II and I am sure this year we will see a lot of development in sporting activities in the fields of Billiard, Tennis, Table Tennis and Bridge.

These team members inspire a lot of confidence and it is on the basis of their inherent talent and past performance that I am sticking my neck out and making a prediction that this year we will achieve our targets with overs to spare. However, the conditions of the ground and the support of the home crowd is a must in every record breaking achievement.  I will therefore, request all the honorable members of the club that I, and the members of the Managing Committee require your full support, guidance and assistance in making our club, which we always refer to as our second home, a home of which we can be proud of.

Please keep us informed of our short comings, provide us your suggestions for improving the club and admonish us when we fail to live up to your expectations but pat us on our backs when we deserve it.

Now coming to the brass tacks, I intend to continue and execute the projects initiated by my illustrious predecessors, Mr. Mohammad Taqi Iqbal, Mr. Iqbal Umer and Mr. Badar Anwar Lari, and hopefully the Car Parking Project will be finally completed this year and the construction of the Members’ Lodges will be subjected to swift progress.

This year my main stress will be on running the club in accordance with the rules and I have requested the members of the Managing Committee and the staff of the club not to relax the rules even for the President.  I will request all the respected members to kindly cooperate with me and the Members of the Managing Committee and the staff in this regard.

Although it is rather late in the day, I would like to wish all of you a ‘Happy New Year’ and pray to God that He may bless you and members of your family with His choicest blessings and keep you in the best of health and happiness.

I would also pray to the Almighty  to guide me and the Members of the Managing Committee in fulfilling our commitments in making our club the best club in Pakistan.
